Drummer Dirk Janssen has to step down from the position. Instead of
contemplating replacing Dirk with another drummer,we have decided to
move on in other projects. It just wouldn't be right calling ourselves
DESPONDENCY if Dirk isn't involved. For now we just wish to

Reason being is that Richard depends very much on actual band practice

decision is in no way a reflection on Richard's skills as a drummer or
his personality as he will always remain part of the Spawn Of
Possession
family. We wish him all the best with his ongoing and future endeavors

released the following statement: "After three-plus years of touring
the world together and playing on our latest album, 'The March', we
have parted ways with drummer Derek Kerswill. The most notable reason
for the split are the creative differences. The time has come for
Unearth to write a new album and creating music with a tight unit is
the only way we can assure the best collection of songs possible. The
differences between Kerswill and the band started off as subtle, but
became increasingly obvious over the past few months and it was time
for both parties to go their separate ways. We have shared a ton of
great experiences and achieved many of the goals we set for ourselves
in the time he was in the band. There is no ill will from either side
of this decision and we wish him only the best moving forward...
Unearth
won't skip a beat, though, as we will be announcing a replacement
drummer for our upcoming European stint on the Persistence Tour

(09.11) Blabbermouth.net
has a transcript of a really good interview with former Dream Theater
drummer Mike Portnoy discussing more on why he left the band.
(09.11) When asked about the absence of bassist Frank Watkins
from Obituary's
recent tours and whether the band's current touring bassist, Terry
Butler (Six Feet Under), is a permanent addition to the group's lineup,
Obituary guitarist Trevor Peres said, "Nothing's permanent. We want
[Terry]
to be our bass player permanently. Obviously he plays in Six feet
Under,
and we're trying to make the schedules work like a puzzle so he can
play in both bands. He doesn't really wanna jump ship from Six Feet,
'cause he has a good situation there, but we want him to play with us,
so it's all good. And the reason we don't have Frank Watkins anymore
is... just because."
(09.09) Sad, sad news. Drummer Mike Portnoy has decided to leave Dream Theater.
See his statement here.
Overall, it looks like he wanted to take an extended break, but the
band didn't want to go on hiatus, so he decided to leave and let them

Mike will be missed, I hope he finds what he's looking for, and I hope

therefore we will not reveal any details nor answering questions about
this. As you may know, this is not the first time Nils is out of the
band, but it's most certainly the last. How strange this even may
sound, I really think that we will be better off without him in the
long run." Go here

Drummer Pete Sandoval's back surgery: "Pete has suffered for a long
time with a deteriorating disc problem. He was in daily pain and needed

specialist in Tampa, Florida. He is currently in rehabilitation and
doing well. Pete is part of our family and the band's history and we
all wish him well and a full recovery. Unfortunately, this type of
injury, subsequent surgery and rehab cannot be rushed and it will take
ample time for him to hopefully be back behind his drums again and out
on tour with Morbid Angel. The band is moving forward on their next
recording with Tim Yeung (Divine Heresy, All That Remains, Nile, Hate
