1) DEVIN
TOWNSEND: Addicted
Just a relentless album all the way through, both heavy, musical and
melodic, the perfect blend in many ways of all his previous projects.
|
|
2) MAN
MUST DIE: No Tolerance For Imperfection
This totally came out of left field, but the crazy blasting and
perfectly tight riffs make this album my extreme metal pick of the year.
|
|
3) DREAM
THEATER: Black Clouds & Silver Linings
This might have gotten the top spot, since the first and last song on
the album are two of my new favorite Dream Theater songs. However, the
rest of the album IMO is only soso, so I couldn't justify giving this
the top spot.

|
4) DYING
FETUS: Descend Into Depravity
This album captures the freshness of the first time I heard this
fantastic band. A really well written album.
|
|
5) SUFFOCATION:
Blood Oath
From the first bar of the first riff on the album, I just knew that
Suffocation had made their best album since they reformed.
|
|
6) DIVINE
HERESY: Bringer Of Plagues
Dino shows again that there is life after Fear Factory. Almost as good
as their debut in terms of songs and performance.
|
|
7) NILE:
Those Whom The Gods Detest
I still preferred Ithyphallic, but there's no denying that this is a
solid Nile album. And I really love 'Utterances Of The Crawling Dead'.
|
|
8) DEVOURMENT:
Unleash The Carnivore
This just kept creeping into my playlist, just one of the most
punishing albums ever in terms of distortion and heaviness.
|
|
9) NAPALM
DEATH: Time Waits For No Slave
While down at number 9, Napalm continues to impress with great album
after great album.
|
|
10) THY
ART IS MURDER: Infinite Death
I'm not entirely sure why, but this short 5 song blastathon just
dominated my playlist earlier this year.
