- (01.25) Pantera guitarist
Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul have started up a new group
called New Found Power, along with
former Halford guitarist Patrick Lachman on vocals and ex-Jerry
Cantrell guitarist Shawn Matthews on bass. They're working on material
for a debut album, to be released later this year. In Pantera news, it
seems like the band may be dead for good, in a Guitar
World interview with Dimebag he says that Rex and Phil (the
other two members of Pantera) refuse to discuss future plans, and so
the brothers have decided to get on with their lives and that's
why they're forming this new band. On a personal note, I was very
confused by the fact that in the aforementioned Guitar World magazine,
Dimebag was rated as the top metal guitarist for 2002. I mean, he
hasn't released an album in years, and there's certainly a bunch of
other people who did some spectacular stuff in 2002 that deserve more
praise right now. Mind you, just about all the other metal
categories in the mag were filled with (in my opinion) crappy bands
and albums, Korn's "Untouchables" as the number 2 rated album????
Yickes! I expect all us fans of non-trendy metal have moved on to other
pastures. A shame, I really enjoyed Guitar World in the late eighties
early nineties.

preview of several songs from their new album "Reflections" due Feb

looking for permanent replacements for the two missing musicians. The
band hopes to record some new material this spring.
- (01.03) On the official Anthrax
website, drummer Charlie Benante asks fans to
not download the new Anthrax record. The main issue is the american
release will occur on April 1st while the Japanese and European release
will occur early Feb, with such a great span of time between releases,
many american fans
will probably download the album once the European one gets
released. While I'm sure the release date is beyond their control,
I do wish they could have inked a deal to get all 3 releases to happen
at approx the same time, which I think would be a much better deterrent
than any sort of formal plea.
- (01.03) Sepultura will
travel to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on Jan. 9, 2003 to begin recording
their as-yet-untitled new album with producer Steve Evetts. It is
expected to be a late spring/early summer
