The band is leaving hypnotic records, and is recording new material to shop around, and eventually make a new full length album. Another tidbit "A version of the theme song for the Japanese commix television series called “Goldorak” from many years ago has been newly recorded (we think it was called “Grendizer” in English). The current staff thanks you for your support and looks to see you again soon shortly." Why you might ask? Well, looks like NB and Century Media are merging to form one big new company. So all the NB folks from NY and Philly are moving out to LA to merge with the Century Media office. The labels will continue using their two names, and will keep their operations somewhat separate, but their combined resources will definitely make them a big force in the metal industry in the coming years.

  • (10/28) Here's a little piece I picked up on the Divine Empire site: "Jay Blackowicz is out of jail today. As subscribers to the newsletter know, Jay had been in jail for about a month awaiting a court date for an assault with a deadly weapon charge. The short of it goes, Jay had to defend himself against a broken-bottle wielding drunk at his front door, and in doing so got the bottle away from this jackass and bloodied him up pretty good. But after a considerable amount of time behind bars, Jay is out and doing his Divine business. He and JP are currently talking to a drummer from Denmark, and are hoping to bring a new skin-pounder on board soon to tour in support of the new release (in US stores October 31st.)"

  • (05/07) Messiah, the videogame who's soundtrack includes several Fear Factory tracks, is out now. The band is still hard at work on the new album with almost all the new songs written, and hope to start recording this month. For a chat transcript of Raymond (the drummer) talking about videogames, the new album, and other stuff, go here. Interesting news for those of you too lazy to read the interview, the australia live album won't happen because the band and roadrunner couldn't come to an agreement on the album, there will be no remix album of Obsolete, and several songs on the new album may use some riffs that come from the 4 tracks written for the Demolition Racer videogame.
  • (05/07) As I reported awhile ago, the members of Oppressor broke up and reformed a new band named Soil (minus Jim their guitar player, added the former bass player from Broken Hope, and added a new vocalist). New material that the band has written and is currently writing will probably become a new album sometime early next year. Speaking of Divine Empire, apparently their replacement drummer will be the famous Alex Marquez, formerly of Malevolent Creation. Cool. • (02/06) Last night's Dream Theater concert went off without a hitch. The palace is still claiming that they did not oversell, and the police cleared the room simply because there were too many people on the dance floor. Of course, anyone who actually attended the show will remember the crowded conditions in the balcony as well, and will know just what a bullshit excuse they've come up with to save their asses. Anyways, not matter how much this situation pisses me off, I'll refrain from speaking about it anymore, unless I get information on a refund for concert goers. That is definitely the last time I go anywhere near the Palace, except to get my money back.
  • (02/05) 7th Child shall record their debut CD later this year.
  • (02/05) I received an email from the Palace who put on the Dream Theater show last night. They say the police were in error because the Palace holds 1250 people, and only 980 were attending. However, I find that hard to believe, considering there were 3-4 people on each step sitting in the aisle because there was no other room to put them. And they have yet to comment about refunds. I hope for everyone's sake the show that's happening tonight goes well. If anyone has any info on how tonight's show goes, as well as any comments the band might make about the subject, I'd love to hear them.
  • (02/05) Devin Townsend is now recording the vocals for his "Physicist" project, followed by mixing and then it's all done. They are also currently planning a CD-ROM bonus to come with the CD, including interviews, live videos, etc.
  • (02/05) Went to see Dream Theater tonight (well, last night the friday night show on the 4th) playing at the Palace in Hollywood. And all hell broke loose, as the band gets pulled from the stage when the palace overbooks the show and the fire marshall closes down the concert! Here's the facts, I show up to the concert half an hour after doors open. The doors had apparently just opened, and there was a huge line snaking down the street, I was surprised and had no clue how they'd fit that many people in the small venue. When I finally got in half an hour later, the place was PACKED!, and the opening act (The Dixie Dreggs with Steve Morse) had already been playing for half an hour already, before most of the people had even come in! I still managed to find seating in the balcony, DT came on, played up until "The Spirit Carries On", and half way through, mike tells the crowd that the fire marshall is stopping the concert. We thought it was a joke, a minute later, he just said "fuck it, we'll keep playing till we get booted off". They continued the song, the venue shut off the PA, the band kept playing, finally, the venue cut the power to the amps, and so the concert ended. The crowd stayed put, chanting lots of mean things at the promoter and venue (especially invigorating was the chants of "Suck my Dick" directed at the promoter), who had obviously overbooked the show, and so the fire marshall had shut it down as a fire hazard. Since the crowd wouldn't leave, the riot police rolled in, and started moving the crowd out of the building. Once we were out of the building, we hung around till the riot police told us to move on. The crowd was angry and disappointed but peaceful, didn't see any violence or anything, although there was at least one fan arrested. Rumors have been flying, I heard a rumor that the band was arrested for "inciting" a riot. I also heard that the sold out show tomorrow night is still a go, but even if that's true, I'm sure that show is also overbooked, which means either it'll get shut down again, or else half the fans with tickets won't be able to get inside. And I doubt Dream Theater will want to play at the palace again considering how badly they were just treated. I also heard the theater will be shut down for two weeks because this is not the first time they've violated fire laws. All of those are rumors, take them for what they're worth. So in short, I feel really gypped, I would like some sort of refund considering I didn't get to see the whole show, and I think the promoter or whomever sold more tickets then seating should be castrated. A lot of angry and sad Dream Theater fans went home unhappy tonight.

  • (01/13) Rob Zombie is back in the studio this month to start on some new material.
