• (12/30) Fear Factory will be playing the Medley in Montreal on Jan 26th 1999.
• (12/29) Earache will be busy with a few new rare CDs in the new year. Expect a Carcass CD, the "Best of" + rare inc. Peel sessions (1st time on CD) on Feb 22nd, 1999, and a reissue of Morbid Angel's "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" with a bonus disc called "Love of Lava", out on the same day. No idea what's on the bonus disc, more on that as I find out.
• (12/29) Tool has finally cleaned up a major lawsuit between them and their former record company. Everyone was suing everybody, but now it looks like they've come to some sort of settlement, so maybe the band can get back to writing some music now.
• (12/29) Rumor has it that the Deftones will be recording a new album early next year, expect a 99 release.
• (12/27) Coal Chamber's new album will be called "Chamber Music". They're currently in the studio.
• (12/27) Guitarist Doug Cerrito (of Suffocation) will be appearing on Hate Eternal's debut CD on Full Moon Productions. The band consist of Erik Rutan (ex-Morbid Angel), Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse) and Tim Yeung. Look for the album to be released in early '99.
• (12/27) The new Machine Head album will be released in March 99, mixed by Terry Date, and produced by Ross Robinson. Recording should already be underway, although still no album title yet.
• (12/27) Norwegian band Syndicate will be releasing a 3-track CD single in the spring of '99. It will only be available through the band, so contact them via e-mail at thjelm@c2i.net or by snail mail at Syndicate c/o Tommy Hjelm, Follovn. 66, 1400 Ski, Norway.

• (12/21) Obliveon has just released the reissue of "Nemesis". If you don't own this album, get it now, no collection is complete without it.
• (12/19) Reviews are now available for 4 demo bands from England I heard recently, Infestation, Gorerotted, 7th Child and Akercocke. Look for the reviews in the bands section.
• (12/19) Fear Factory will be touring the US and Canada starting in January (Headlining this time, finally). Expect to see them in Montreal Jan 26th 1999.

• (12/15) Obliveon's first album "From This Day Forward" has finally been re-released, and is in stores now. I put a review of it in the bands section (since I hadn't heard it before).
• (12/14) Added a review in the bands section to the Fear Factory single "Resurrection".
• (12/13) Seems like Arch Enemy (which features everyone's favorite Carcass leftover Michael Amott) is ready to go into the studios to record their 3rd album (even though their second didn't come out all that long ago.)
• (12/11) Rumors have been around that Ozzy is recording a new solo album (titled "I Did It All Because Of You"), but apparently he has not started recording, and the album won't be out anytime soon.

• (12/10) Devin Townsend's new album "Infinity" will finally be shipping (mail order from Hevy Devy Records) in the US on or about December 21st 1998.
• (12/06) In Vader news, the band has released a video called "Vision and Voice", and a Live CD called "Live In Japan." More details on these two releases when I have them.
• (12/03) Nile will be touring this coming spring with Cryptopsy, and then will start working on their new album for a 1999 release date.

• (12/02) Obliveon finally have their own Domain name, http://www.obliveon.com. And great news, their first two CDs, "From This Day Forward" and "Nemesis", will finally be reissued in December. Furthermore, they'll be going into the studios in December to record their 4th album.
• (12/02) On Olympic records, the debut release from Divine Empire is out now. It features Jason Blachowicz, Derik Roddy, and J.P. Soars of Malevolent Creation. I'll review it when I get it.

• (11/27) Starting December 1st, all copies of "Diabolus In Musica" from Slayer will include a bonus CD called "Ubernoise", which has live versions of 'Angel Of Death', 'Mandatory Suicide', 'Chemical Warfare', and 'Raining Blood'. The CD also contains an interview with the band, and a live video as a CD-ROM extra.

• (11/27) Theory In Practice are still waiting for Pulverized records to release their new CD. In the meantime, visit their website for some sound samples in mp3 format from the new album.

• (11/20) Malevolent Creation will be on tour in Feb 99 with Jungle Rot, and the Pavement site has a preliminary list of tour dates.

• (11/18) In Pantera news, the band will start its tour with Black Sabbath soon. Check out Panteranet for specific dates. They'll be in Montreal at the forum on Feb 11th 1999.
• (11/16) In Devin Townsend news, "Infinity" has finally been released. You can buy a copy for $15 each in the USA (US dollars) and Canada (CDN dollars) and $16 US for International, postage included. Visit the Hevy Devy site for their mailing address and more information.
• (11/12) Relapse is planning a few reissues early next year, including the impossible to find "None So Vile" from Cryptopsy.

• (11/09) My final update on the Rock En Stock situation. As mentionned in previous months, this wonderful metal store (in Montreal) decided that it was no longer going to sell metal, then it decided it would still sell metal, but in a much more restrictive fashion, and now, finally, the final nail in the coffin, the basement is totally closed down, and the only employee who cared about the death metal scene has been laid off. So ladies and gentlemen, that's it. No more Rock En Stock death metal section. Rest in peace little buddy.
• (11/06) Check out the Pavement Music site for ra's off the new Malevolent Creation album. Be warned, the quality of the sound files suck, I still don't understand why anyone would use Real Audio to compress metal music, since the compression format sucks so badly. Get with it Pavement, mp3 is the way to go.
• (11/04) I've been holding off on this review, but I've decided to review the promo copy of the new Meshuggah album. And when the final version comes out in stores, I'll buy it, and put up a seperate review of it under the first one. Anyways, check out the bands section for the review.

• (11/04) LiveConcerts.com will be presenting Fear Factory, Sepultura, Earth Crisis and Vision of Disorder Live via Real Audio on November 18th 1998.

• (10/30) I added a link in the links section to the Musician's Assistance Site. While not dealing specifically with death metal, it does give lots of good information on how to make it in the music industry.
• (10/29) A review of Vader's "Kingdom" EP is in the bands section.
• (10/29) Check out the new Metal Maniacs mag, it has a 4 page interview with Meshuggah about the new album, an interview with Bolt Thrower and Benediction. This is also where the rumor first started about Karl leaving Bolt Thrower for a second time. The mag has a webpage at http://www.metalmaniacs.com.
• (10/29) Here's a major scoop. Demigod, who released their first and only CD back in '92 have reformed, and will be recording their second album in the coming months. Expect it to be released on Repulse Records, and expect a track from the new album to appear on a soon to be released Repulse compilation album.
• (10/24) Some news from James Murphy. First, he will be working on the new Testament album, which should be coming out sometime in March of 1999. He is also going to be working on a new Disincarnate album, and his new solo CD called "Feeding The Machine" will be out sometime in November or so.
• (10/23) Two pieces of Earache news. First, the Bolt Thrower "Who Dares Wins" Ep has been delayed again till Nov 2nd 1998. And the Earache Site has a preview of the cover art to the new Napalm Death album.
• (10/21) The new Malevolent Creation album's release has been postponed a week till Nov 3rd 1998.
• (10/21) In Fear Factory news, a new Digipak of "Obsolete" will be released this christmas with some extra tracks, 'Cars' (with Gary Numan), 'Concreto', and 'Messiah'. Also an EP called the "The rEvolution of Fear Factory" will be released, which includes 5 tracks, one from each Fear Factory album.
• (10/19) The new Broken Hope album "Grotesque Blessings" will be recorded this winter, hopefully we'll see it early 1999 in the stores.
• (10/19) Apparently Karl Willetts (vocalist) from Bolt Thrower has left the band a second time. Or it might just be a vicious rumor. Dave Ingram of Benediction might fill the vacant slot. Or that might be a rumor too.
• (10/18) There are now some mp3 available on the Meshuggahsite from "Chaosphere."
• (10/16) The Deftones are doing a major North American tour right now, and will come to Montreal (at Metropolis) on Nov 24th 1998. For a full tour list, visit their website.
• (10/16) Blood Duster will be releasing a live album sometime in 1999.
• (10/16) Fredrik Thordendal has remixed his solo record "Sol Niger Within", now called "Sol Niger Within 3.33", which shall be released in the US sometime in January. He's gotten rid of the organ parts, remixed everything with better sound (if that's possible), and added two bonus tracks, "Missing Time" and "Oh Baby Baby".
• (10/15) Editorial note, apparently the Deeds Of Flesh Demo has been re-released by the band, not Relapse, Relapse is just distributing some of them.
• (10/15) A confirmed date on the release of the new Napalm Death CD (at least in Europe), October 25th 1998.
• (10/14) Speaking Of Apocalyptica, they now have their own domain name at http://www.apocalyptica.com.
• (10/14) The webzine Corridor Of Cells has just updated, including an interview with Apocalyptica, and some mp3's of Zaraza's music. Deep and dark stuff, check it out.

• (10/09) "Gradually Melted", the first demo from Deeds Of Flesh, has been re-released on CD from Relapse.
• (10/09) Internal Bleeding will be entering the studios to record the new album sometime in April of 99, and they hope to release it during the summer. They also have a 7inch with some older material coming out soon. Check out their website for more info.
• (10/09) Also added a review of the new Sinister album, which has to get my vote for best album I've heard in awhile.
• (10/09) Added a review in the bands section of the new Sepultura CD.
• (10/07) Slayer seems to be doing some soundtracks. They have a song on the "Bride of Chucky Soundtrack" called 'Human Disease', and another song called 'Guardian' on 'The Extreme Wrestling Championship Soundtrack', to be released Oct 27th.
• (10/07) The new Fear Factory single will be out November 30th 1998.

• (10/05) Nuclear Blast also features a track off the new Sinister album. I managed to hear a promo copy of this album, and it's intense, definitely check it out.
• (10/05) Nuclear Blast has released a song off the new Meshuggah album for our listening pleasure. Check it out at http://www.nuclearblast.de. A warning though, the recording quality is very low on this Real Audio file, you might want to wait for the CD.
• (10/04) A new CD-single by Fear Factory will be released soon. The single is called "Resurrection", and it will include a remix of 'Resurrection', 'O-O (Where Evil Dwells)', which is a Wiseblood cover song, and 'Soulwound', an old Fear Factory song written around the time "Soul Of New Machine" was recorded. No release date yet.

• (09/30) Well, White Zombie is now officially dead. However, Rob Zombie is continuing his solo career, with John Tempesta on drums, so things aren't too bad. Look for Rob to continue his tour along with Marilyn Manson in Europe.
• (09/29) For all Napalm Death fans, a song off their new album can be heard on the Earplugged III compilation which will be released Oct 5th on Earache Records. Or, go to the Earache Site for a preview.
• (09/29) In other Pavement news, expect a tour with Malevolent Creation, Morta Skuld and Incantation right after the new Malevolent album comes out.
• (09/29) Finally, it looks like Pavement Records will be releasing Vader's "Kingdom" EP in the US on Nov 10th 1998.

• (08/21) Many people have complained about the poor recording quality of the new Oppressor album. Well, apparently the band is also unhappy with the sound, and it wasn't the recording. The original recording sounds a whole lot better, the fault occured somewhere in the mastering or duplication process. Let's hope the label figures this out and rereleases the album with the production that it orginal had and deserves.
• (08/21) Apparently there will be a new Hate Plow record sometime in '99.

• (09/11) In Meshuggah news, the album has been pushed back a few days till Nov 3rd 1998. Also, a whole ton of new tab is available for their songs, definately check it out.
• (09/11) The new Bolt Thrower album is out in Europe, americans will have to wait until november. But I'm taking the album off of the release list, because I should be able to get a import copy in the next few weeks for review.

• (09/06) The release of the Scattered Remnants album has been pushed back yet again, till Nov 1st 1998.
• (09/05) Some news from the Suffocation site, after all the rumors, it seems that the band has not permanently broken up, but they're having a sort of 'trial-seperation'. Dave has left, Frank is taking some time off, and the rest of the band have several side projects going for the next little while (more info on those when I get it). And later on, if all goes well, the band will regroup, get a new drummer, and start touring again (and get that new album out finally).

• (08/27) Looks like Devin Townsend is planning yet another project sometime next year (after the new SYL record), tentatively titled "Physicist", which will be heavier and more distorted than SYL, and will be based on geometrical and mathematical principles. There's also a photo of the artwork for the new Infinity CD on Devin's site.
• (08/26) The Scattered Remnants album release has been pushed back again till Sept 1st 1998.

• (08/21) A quick update on Rock En Stock. I got a lot of email after my original announcement that its death metal section had closed down. To all of you, I'd just like to let you know that there is still metal at Rock En Stock, however, it now shares the basement with jazz and blues, and has been restricted to one corner of the room. The basement will definitely never be the same, and it really doesn't have the same atmosphere as before, but at least you can still get good music there, it's just a little harder to find.
• (08/21) This was posted on the newsgroups, apparently there's a new Disincarnate project is in the works. The lineup is as follows: James Murphy: guitar, Thomas (ex at the gates): vocals, Gene Hoglan: Drums, Steve Digorgio (Death, Sadus): Bass. I'll see if I can get some more information on this from another source.
• (08/16) Martyr is working on a new album which should be released in the spring of 1999.
• (08/10) Seems the Napalm Death site is down for "Financial Reasons". Hopefully Teufel will be able to work this out soon, and the site will go back online.
• (08/09) Cryptopsy, Gorguts, Oppressor and Nile will be coming to Founfounes on Friday September 11th 1998.
• (08/08) Monstrosity will be in the studios in September to record their new album, "In Dark Purity".
• (08/07) I urge everyone out there reading this to send some email to JFMSUFFO@aol.com. This is Suffocation's email address. Just write them a quick note giving your support to the band, and try and persuade them to at least record the new album before they decided to break up.
• (08/07) I broke the Concerts section up into separate pages for each concert.
• (08/07) Some Broken Hope News. They will be recording the new album in September, and they do hope for an early '99 release. As for the band itself, drummer Ryan Stanek has left, replaced by Larry DeMumbrum. And Shaun Glass the bassist has left. The band will look for a replacement after the new album is recorded, until then, Brian will be filling in on bass.

• (08/06) A crushing blow to all fans of true Death Metal. Suffocation is breaking up. I had hoped this was just a dumb rumor, but it seems like it's a harsh reality. They're apparently going to play a few more shows, then call it quits. Hopefully fans support will persuade them at the very least to record their new album before they finish, but who knows.

• (08/04) The new Malevolent Creation album "Countdown to Murder" will be released this October.

• (07/10) Some new Devin Townsend news. First, the SYL / Ocean Machine European tour went well. The Japanese version of "No Sleep Till Bedtime" (which will be released Sept 19th) will have 3 extra demo tracks from City, as well as a track from the G.U.N.T. project. As for Infinity, he hopes to have it finished by August and released by Oct 21st (in Japan once again). It should be available through HDR records mailorder sooner than that. And Devin will start recording the new SYL album sometime in December.
• (07/10) For anyone who's interested, Nick Menza has left Megadeth. No word on his replacement yet.
• (07/10) Release of the Napalm Death Live CD has been pushed back till Aug 11th 1998.
• (07/10) A claim was made on the newsgroups today that Broken Hope will be recording a new album in September, and they hope to have it released by Jan '99.
• (07/10) According to a press release I just got, Cannibal Corpse will not be appearing at Club Soda on the 28th, they're playing at Foufounes.
• (07/09) More Fear Factory tour dates available on the Fear Factory site, and guess what, they'll be in Montreal on Sept 8th. Ya!!
• (07/08) The Meshuggah website is showing 2 more US tour dates for the band, and there are rumors of a US tour in '99 with Machine Head. This might be it guys, the first Meshuggah North American tour!

• (06/28) Century Media plans to reissue a whole lot of material that was originally issued on Combat and Relativity in the early 80's. The new album will be available in Europe in October, they hope to have it released in the states at the same time. They speak briefly about Earache releasing "Who Dares Wins", and ask fans not to buy the album since it's just Earache trying to screw the band out of even more money. This boycott might be hard to accomplish though, since the EP contains the tracks off the impossible to find Spearhead EP and Cenotaph EP. The site also has a list of all the equipment the band uses to get their godly sound.
• (06/22) Machine Head has finally found a new guitarist named Ahrue Luster. They expect to enter the studios to record their new album in September.
• (06/21) The new Fear Factory album is completely mastered and read to go, all that needs to be finished is the CD-ROM Extra portion of the CD, which will be a shoot-em-up video game with Fear Factory music playing in the background. Only the first pressing of the CD will include the game.

• (05/06) This is just a quick memorial to one of the best metal stores in Montreal. Rock En Stock has provided quality service and music for as long as I can remember. Their basement level was a shrine to metal fans, an entire floor dedicated to death metal and other forms of extreme music. Over the past few years, the level of service has gone down hill, finally ending with today, when I walked into the store, and saw the basement empty. The metal music that remains in the store will be mixed in with the rock music in the upstairs, and the basement will now contain blues and other such music. The end of an era is upon us, rest in peace Rock En Stock. You did well, and we'll all miss you greatly.

• (04/30) Lots of Meshuggah news. They have been confirmed for the Milwaukee Metalfest. They'll be recording the new album starting May 18th with Daniel Bergstrand as engineer (yah!). The compilation "Death Is Just The Beginning 5" from Nuclear Blast will have a new unreleased Meshuggah track. And there are two new mpgs of the band, all this and more available at the official Meshuggah site (see link above.)

• (02/12) In Napalm Death news, the band has resigned with Earache for several new albums. When the band's contract came up for renewal, they decided to stick with Earache, who, at least according to the Earache PR, have done a good job promoting the band. They'll be working on a new studio album that they hope to have ready by the end of the year.
• (02/12) Some major news about Devin Townsend. First, he has been undergoing treatment for Bipolar Disorder in the hospital. He will be recording a new Strapping Young Lad CD, although it may take a different approach from the previous CDs (since screaming like a maniac probably isn't too good for his recovery). He's current hard at work at his next project called Infinity. No idea when that one will come out. The live SYL CD should be out next month, and the track listing is as follows: 'Velvet Kavorkian', 'All Hail The New Flesh', 'Oh My Fucking God', 'Home Nucleonics', 'SYL', 'In The Rainy Season', and 'Far Beyond Metal'. • (02/05) Someone started a rumor on the newsgroups yesterday that Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel had been killed in a car accident. This has been flatly denied, you can all relax, Pete is still alive and getting ready for the world tour.
• (02/01) Bolt Thrower has finished recording the new album. A total of 10 tracks were finished, and it's apparently as heavy as hell. Release date is still unknown, but probably sometime this spring, maybe March.
• (02/01) Gwar should have a new album out by the end of the year.
• (02/01) The Obliveon page is finally updated. With it comes some bad news, there's still a delay in re-releasing the first two albums (Come on guys, we're counting on you!). On a brighter note, Soundscape Music Canada, a new canadian record label, will be releasing the band's second demo "Whimsical Uproar" from 1987. Hopefully that will be out soon.

• (01/29) Some news on the Slayer site. Seems that no one is sure who's label Slayer is currently on, although rumors include Venture, Columbia, and Sony. The album has been rescheduled for release on May 2nd.

• (01/22) Again some Fear Factory news. The band hopes their new album will be out by June 1st. Song titles include 'Smasher Devourer', 'Securitron', 'High Tech Hate', 'Wind Called Amnesia', 'Obsolete', 'Resurrection', 'Forced Down', 'Shock', and 'Edge Crush'. Also, some music from "Demanufacture" has found its way into the Carmageddon video game. Songs from "Obsolete" might appear in Carmageddon 2. And on touring notes, they should be playing Ozzfest '98 and the Dynamo festival. No word yet on a more extensive tour afterwards.
• (01/22) Some new Meshuggah news. The band now has a new permanent bass player (Gustaf Hielm). The reissue of "Contradictions Collapse" is apparently out, which includes 4 of the 5 tracks from "None" as bonus tracks. And Meshuggah was recently mentioned by John Petrucci (Dream Theater) in an Ibanez promotional video as some of the best users of the Ibanez 7-string. Maybe this will lead to an official sponsorship.
• (01/18) Apparently Fear Factory will be performing in Ozzfest '98. Sure hope they come to Montreal this time. Click here for more info about Ozzfest, eventually they should have some info on the site about the 1998 tour.
