Dec 1997
-
(12/25) Review available in the Band's section for
Hypocrisy's
new album "The Final Chapter".
-
(12/21) According to Metal Blade, the new Bolt
Thrower CD has been tentatively titled
"Mercenary".
-
(12/20) It's official now, Feb 24th is the day the
new Morbid Angel
album will be out.
-
(12/12) From a similar newsgroup source, Suffocation's
ep will be out Jan 6th 1998. Once again, this has not been confirmed.
-
(12/12) According to a message on the newsgroups,
Morbid
Angel's new album will be out on February
24th 1998. This is not a confirmed date, so I have it in the release section
as a ?
-
(12/12) According to the Earache website, Napalm
Death's Live Video is out in the US.
-
(12/10) The Pantera
Live Video is out. See a review in the Bands section.
-
(12/10) The Testament
best of album is out, and it's been added to my bands page. I don't really
have a review of it though, since the album is basically just a bunch of
their old songs. If you don't already own their older albums, this is a
good mix of their music.
-
(12/09) The Cannibal
Corpse video "Monolith Of Death Tour"
has been released, and has on it the following tracks: 'Perverse Suffering',
'Monolith', 'Pulverized', 'Fucked With A Knife', 'Bloodlands', 'Gutted',
'A Skull Full Of Maggots', 'Mummified In Barbed Wire', 'Orgasm Through
Torture', 'Devoured By Vermin', 'Stripped, Raped, And Strangled', 'Hammer
Smashed Face', and the 'Devoured By Vermin' uncensored music video. I probably
won't get a copy of it up here for awhile due to some dumb Quebec video
laws, but everyone else, enjoy.
-
(12/03) More news on Devin
Townsend of SYL and Ocean Machine fame.
As of the most recent newsletter, several new projects in the works. First,
a new project called Infinity, which will be more guitar oriented than
previous albums. This will also include Gene on drums, and should be finished
by spring. The live SYL album is mastered, and will be called "No Sleep
Till Bedtime", and should be out soon. Lastly, most people already know
about the European tour being canceled. Hopefully they'll get to play there
eventually, but not before they come to Montreal :) There was no mention
in the newsletter about the new SYL album, so who knows what's up with
that.
-
(12/03) There's now a review of the Testament
concert I was at last night in the concerts section.
-
(12/03) Pantera
will be coming to Montreal again, Jan 28th 1997. Opening will be Anthrax
and Coal Chamber.
-
(12/03) There's a review of the Napalm
Death EP "Breed to Breathe" in the band's
section. Speaking of the band, they're apparently also going to release
a live video called "Live Corruption" on Dec 22nd 1997.
-
(12/03) Bolt Thrower
are now in the studios recording the new album, and will be finished January
13th 1998. They'll be recording ten (maybe eleven) songs, and hope for
a spring release.
-
(12/03) Some news on Cannibal
Corpse. First, they've replaced guitarist
Rob Barrett with a guy named Pat O'Brien. And their new album is going
well, and has been tentatively titled "Gallery Of Suicide".
-
(12/03) The new Morbid
Angel album is finished. For more info,
including a track listing and a cover photo, go to the Earache
News Page.
-
(12/03) Internal
Bleeding has a new webpage up, available
through my bands section. They're selling their new CD through mail order
now, which I might have to take them up on, since I can't seem to get it
through any of my local record stores.
-
(12/03) Benediction's
new album "Grind Bastard" is being mixed now, and will include 13 songs
with over an hour of music.
-
(12/03) The webzine "Brutality's Pulse" has a new
issue (sort of), and has some good interviews in it with Internal Bleeding
and Benediction. Go check it out on my links page.
-
(12/01) According to an interview with Devin of Strapping
Young Lad (the interview is in Vibrations
Of Doom #16), he's going to start writing a new album in January, which
should be ready by April.
Nov 1997
-
(11/30) Brett Hoffman is back in Malevolent
Creation, and apparently they'll start
working on a new album to be released in 1998. Seems a bit early for a
new album what with "In Cold Blood" recently released, hopefully they'll
decide to tour a bit more before they head back to the studios.
-
(11/28) Some news on the Fear
Factory site about the new album. It's
being tentatively called "Obsolete" and two song titles are "Securition"
and "Smash Smash Devour." Sounds like the Fear Factory we all know and
love.
-
(11/19) Vader's
new album "Black To The Blind" is available in Europe and Japan.
We hope for an American release soon. You can hear some mp3's of the new
album at their webpage, available through the bands section.
-
(11/19) Metallica's
"Reload" is now out, although I won't be reviewing it because I don't want
to waste my money on a copy of the album.
-
(11/16) Slayer
has finished recording their new album. They have apparently switched labels
(since American Recordings is going through some restructuring), and they
hope to have it out by Jan / Feb of next year.
-
(11/10) I'm afraid my favorite Fear
Factory webpage will no longer be around
come the new year, so I've moved my Fear Factory link to a new page, and
it will remain at this page until I can find a site with better or more
up to date info.
-
(11/10) Looks like Karl Willets, former vocalist
for Bolt Thrower,
might be rejoining the band. At least to record their new album. Nothing
yet is confirmed.
-
(11/06) Sepultura's
management has issued a press release with some info on the band. They've
decided to find a new vocalist (instead of Andreas taking over the position),
and they've also written several songs for the new album, and hope to have
it released by late 1998.
-
(11/01) Go and visit the Unofficial
Meshuggah Site. It has some info that's covered on the official Meshuggah
site, as well as some interesting articles about music theory and how it
relates to the band.
-
(11/01) Here's a link to the new Metallica
song from "Reload" in mp3 format called 'The
Memory Remains'. It sucks, I warn you now.
Oct 1997
-
(10/27) Testament
is going to have a new album, "Signs Of Chaos: The Best Of Testament" out
on November 4th 1997. It includes lots of older tracks, as well as two
cover songs originally recorded by The Scorpions and Aerosmith.
-
(10/25) Benediction's
"Grind Bastard" has been pushed back till April 20th 1998.
-
(10/25) The reissue of Meshuggah's
"Contradictions Collapse" has been pushed back till Jan 26th 1998. Also
Nuclear Blast is showing the new Meshuggah album to be out on April 30th
1998, although I suspect that this date is not going to be very accurate
since the band hasn't even finished writing songs for the album yet.
-
(10/25) A new album will be out soon for Infernal
Torment called "Birthrate Zero". This
should be out any day now.
-
(10/22) A review of the Grrrr!!
compilation is available in the bands section under the * subsection.
-
(10/21) A review of the new Meshuggah
EP is in the Band's section.
-
(10/16) I've changed the Bands section so now you
get a menu that lets you choose the first letter of the band you wish to
see a review of. Hopefully this will decrease the loading time so you can
get to the review you want more quickly and more efficiently.
-
(10/13) Polish death metal legends Vader
will have a new album out on Nov 17th 1997 called "Black To The Blind".
And apparently China has left the band, so we'll have to see who replaces
him on guitar.
-
(10/13) Looks like the guys in Fear
Factory hope to have their album out by
March 1998.
-
(10/13) Metallica's
Reload will be released on Nov 17th 1997. Not that anyone cares...
-
(10/13) Anthrax
is about to sign with a new label on which they want to release their new
album "Volume 8". They have the album recorded, and are still hopeful for
a January 1998 release.
-
(10/10) A review of Fredrik
Thordendal's solo album is now on the
Bands Page.
-
(10/09) Napalm Death
will be releasing their "Breed to Breathe" EP Nov 11th 1997 (in the US,
Nov 17th in Europe). The track listing will be Breed to Breathe, All Intensive
Purposes, Stranger Now, Bled Dry, Time Will Come, and the Breed to Breathe
'Extreme Version' video, which was that video too extreme for TV viewing
mentioned in last month's news. Also included will be an extra track which
is the winners of the Napalm Death Cover Track Competition. The American
winner was Impending Doom, and their cover of 'Greed Killing' will appear
on the US version of the EP, and the European winner Fatality will play
'Suffer The Children' on the European version of the EP. And also apparently
the bass player was badly injured at a concert, but is still performing.
-
(10/07) Finally added that Nile
review on the bands page.
-
(10/04) Some new Strapping
Young Lad news. The band's Australian
tour will be recorded for a live SYL CD which will hopefully be out by
Christmas. And for everyone who ordered a copy of "Grrrr", a problem with
the artwork has delayed the release of the album, but it should be ready
to go within a week or two.
Sept 1997
-
(09/29) After a lot of debate and a lot of math,
it looks like I was wrong about the Meshuggah
IRC chat time. The chat will take place at approx. 5:00pm eastern time
Oct 1st. Boy do I hate this time zone thing.
-
(09/27) The Pantera
Live Video called "3: Watch It Go" will be released November 11th 1997.
-
(09/27) The band Obscenity
will be releasing a new album on Morbid Records sometime in December.
-
(09/26) Scattered
Remnants' “Destined to Fail” Digipack
CD has been postponed till February 1st 1998.
-
(09/26) The Montreal Testament
show has been postponed till Dec 2nd 1997.
-
(09/26) I've been unable to get my hands on a copy
of Nile's
"Ramses Bringer of War", but I have heard the CD, and it shows lots of
promise (expect a full review when my local CD store finally gets my copy
in). The band will also be releasing their first full length album "Amongst
the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka", which should be out Nov 1st 1997 from Visceral
Productions. However, note that this Digipack is limited to 300 copies.
-
(09/25) I can't find any confirmations to this, but
someone recently mentioned on the newsgroups that Prong
is alive once again, and is going on tour in the US. The line up consists
of Tommy Victor on guitar/vocals, Mike Riggs on guitar/keyboard, John Tempesta
on drums, and Frank Cavanaugh on bass. I'll see if I can get this confirmed
by another source soon.
-
(09/23) Here's some Slayer
news. First, a new website called The
Abyss has opened, and it has huge amounts of info about the band. Regarding
the new album, it will indeed be heavier and not as fast as previous albums,
but the band doesn't think the fans will be even slightly disappointed.
This and more is revealed in an interview with the band on the site. As
far as releases, they quote two dates on the new album, Halloween and January.
I think January is more likely, since they need time to finish recording
the album. And expect Paul Bostaph on drums for the album and any subsequent
touring.
-
(09/22) The U.S. release date of Meshuggah's
"True Human Design" has been pushed back till Oct 7th. D'oh!!
-
(09/20) Heavy
Devy Records has just opened their website. This is the record label
run by Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad, and the site has sound clips
and info about all kinds of new CD's released on the label.
-
Ocean Machine's "Biomech".
Devin wrote all the music, but it's more melodic and rock oriented, sort
of like the stuff he was doing for Steve Vai. The album is only available
in Japan so far, so if you want it you'd better find a good import store.
-
"Grrrr!!", which is a compilation of heavy Vancouver
bands, and it also includes one unreleased SYL track called "Centipede"
(this song is on the Japanese version of "City").
-
Zimmers Hole,
a band produced and mixed by Devin.
-
Punky Bruster,
which seems to be a joke CD called "Cooked On Phonics" of pop-punk tunes.
-
(09/19) There's been a few changes to the format
of this webzine, as I'm sure you can see. Other than a few cosmetic changes
to get things to load faster and to give me more space in the main window,
the only other change is the inclusion of some quick links above to some
sites I visit often. And no, they aren't paying me any cash for the plug.
Still, I urge you to checked these guys out if you haven't already, but
you don't have to, and there's still plenty on this site for everyone else.
-
(09/19) Some quick Meshuggah
news. Apparently the new EP is out, but it hasn't made it over to North
America yet. And the band will be on IRC chat on Oct 1st at 2200 CET (which
is I believe Oct 2nd at 3:00am Eastern time) at the channel #meshuggah.
-
(09/19) Lots of new Bolt
Thrower news. First, the band has a new
website run by the band, so here's the Official
Bolt Thrower webpage. As for band news, they have a new drummer named
Alex Thomas, and apparently he's a terror on the double bass (woo-hoo!).
They're still looking for a vocalist, and will be auditioning over the
next 2 weeks. And the studio is booked. The new album will be produced
in Chapel Studios U.K., but it won't be produced by Colin Richardson! Apparently
he decided not to work with the band, the the band wasn't too happy about
it, so they'll be self producing. They'll be in the studio on Dec 5th,
and will probably finish sometime in January.
-
(09/19) Fear Factory
are set to release a European single, ‘Burn’ from their Remanufacture album.
The single will include 4 songs, 'Burn', 'Refueled' and 'Cyberdyne' mixed
by Junkie XL, and 'Transgenic' mixed by Technohead. As for the new Fear
Factory album, looks like they'll be recording it in December, and the
songs seem to be a little more melodic / dance oriented. But Dino still
promises there will be lots of distorted guitars and double kicks. I'll
withhold judgment till I've heard the album. The CD will be mixed by Rhys
Fulber and Greg Reely.
-
(09/19) Aussie band Blood
Duster has finished recording their new
album "Str8 Outta Nortcote". It has 24 songs, and I couldn't find a reference
to when it's coming out, I assume sometime this winter. The CD will be
released on Relapse Records.
-
(09/19) Extreme Noise
Terror has a new album out called "Damage
381". It features the vocals of Napalm Death's Barney Greenway, right before
he rejoined Napalm. The album doesn't sound bad, I'm not sure if I'm going
to pick it up, so I can't promise a review. Still something to check out
if you can't get enough of Barney's voice.
-
(09/19) Morbid Angel
is now in the studio recording the new album. They hope to be finished
by November, and then release the CD shortly after. The lineup on the album
will be Trey Azagthoth on Guitar, Pete Sandoval on drums, and Steve Tucker
on bass/vocals. Of course we all know former bass/vocalist David Vincent
has left the band and is working in a new band named Genitorturers.
-
(09/19) Napalm Death's
video to 'Breed to Breathe' has been censored for MTV viewing. Apparently
MTV wasn't too happy with the 'cheery' images Napalm used in the video,
so they axed out most of the offensive stuff. I tell ya, there's just no
justice...
-
(09/19) Added a new site to the Links page called
Teufel's Tomb, which has lots of info on various bands.
-
(09/19) Strapping
Young Lad is now touring on their own,
here's where
and when.
-
(09/19) The Cannibal
Corpse live video will be called the "Monolith
Of Death Tour".
-
(09/19) On the better late than never front, I've
reviewed the first Foreshadow
CD which I've just got my hands on. It can be found in the Band's section,
although the band has since broken up. I've heard that the guitar / vocalist
Pat Loisel is still in the industry somewhere.
-
(09/19) Here's a link to Mårten
Hagström's homepage, guitarist for Meshuggah.
-
(09/19) There's a review of the new Elements
CD in the Bands section.
-
(09/19) Here are the
tour dates for the rest of the Testament
tour this fall and winter, and sure enough they are coming to Montreal
on the 18th of November, so expect a review right after the concert, and
anyone in the Montreal area, come and support the band. They'll be playing
at Montreal's ultimate concert venue, Foufounes Electriques.
-
(09/19) Rumors have been flying for months, but I
guess this is the current wrap-up about what's happening with Sepultura.
Max Cavalera has left, some sort of dispute about who would be their new
manager, and the split wasn't a happy one, which is sad considering the
band is really like a family. The rest of Sepultura have decided to go
it alone with Andreas Kisser on vocals. We can only hope the band will
get back together soon, not that I doubt Andreas' vocal ability, it's just
the band won't be the same without Max.
-
(09/16) Testament
will continue their North American tour with Kreator
until Christmas. Apparently they're even coming to Montreal. :)
-
(09/12) Obliveon
has moved their website, the new link is on the Bands Page. As for news
about the band, they're releasing their most recent album "Cybervoid" in
Europe, which includes a new bonus track called 'Psychomatrix'. They also
did a song for a recent Ozzy tribute album, and the re-release of their
two earlier albums is delayed again.
-
(09/12) Scattered
Remnants has recently been signed to Visceral
Productions, and you can now find a link to their website on the Bands
Page. They hope to have their first full length album out by December,
and it's currently titled "Destined To Fail". You can also find a new link
to Visceral Productions
on the Links Page.
-
(09/11) The new Altar
album will be called "Provoke".
-
(09/11) While this may not be new news, there was
some recent discussion on the newsgroups about Broken
Hope, and the fact they've been kicked
off Metal Blade. Even with this set back (if you consider it a set back),
the band is still doing fine and doing what it does best, playing really
brutal metal.
-
(09/11) As mentioned before, Chuck is putting Death
back together. The lineup seems to be changing by the day, but it seems
like the following lineup is stable for now. Chuck Schuldiner: Vocals Guitar,
Shannon Hamm: Guitar, Steve DiGiorgio: Bass, Richard Christy: Drums. Visit
the Death webpage through the link on my Bands page.
-
(09/05) Listen to Strapping
Young Lad live in concert at the Next Level site. The quality is pretty
shitty, but hey, it's realaudio, what do you expect.
-
(09/05) You can now order Fredrik's
CD in America from Relapse Records.
Aug 1997
-
(08/30) Fredrik
has released a new mpg3 of a song only available on the Japanese version
of his CD.
-
(08/27) A review for a new demo I recently got from
Scattered
Remnants is in the Bands section.
-
(08/26) Geez, Nuclear Blast has pushed back the Meshuggah
EP till Sept 12th. And the Contradictions Collapse Digipack has been pushed
back till Dec 31st (Of this year, I hope).
-
(08/24) Here's the location to Fredrik
Thordendal's homepage where you can download some mpg3 files of his
new solo album.
-
(08/23) A new EP from Suffocation
called "Despise The Sun" on Vulture Records should be out by September.
Find out a lot more info on the band at this new Suffocation
page I found.
-
(08/23) Sinister
is writing material for their new album "Reborn From Hatred". No word on
when they'll be in the studio or when the album will come out.
-
(08/23) Cannibal
Corpse is auditioning new guitar players
since Rob Barrett left the band several months ago (Rob's now playing with
Malevolent Creation). They're also hoping to record a new album for the
spring of 1998.
-
(08/23) Bolt Thrower
is working on a new album that should be released by Metal Blade early
next year. They got rid of their new vocalist (Martin Van Drunen, who replaced
longtime Bolt Thrower vocalist Karl Willetts), and are presently looking
for a new one.
-
(08/23) Chuck Schuldiner has shelved his Control
Denied project, and is reforming Death
with some new musicians.
-
(08/23) Apparently the new Meshuggah
full length album won't be out till sometime next year.
-
(08/23) Pantera
will be releasing a live video in September to go with their recent live
album.
-
(08/23) Testament
and Strapping Young Lad
will be touring together this fall.
-
(08/17) Anthrax
is hoping to have their new album ready by January 1998.
-
(08/17) Apparently the ultra brutal Altar
are recording a new album that should be ready by the end of this year.
-
(08/17) Trey and the rest of Morbid
Angel will be going into the studio (Morrisound,
of course) in September to record their new CD "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh"
-
(08/17) The new Meshuggah
website has opened at www.meshuggah.net,
and it's filled with lots of goodies for all those of us who can't get
enough of the band. Most recent news on the band is they're hard at work
on the new album, which they hope to have ready by fall. The EP has been
delayed again till Aug 25th, and Nuclear Blast will be releasing a Digipack
of Contradictions Collapse as part of their 10th anniversary.
-
(08/16) Check out the review for the Live Pantera
album on the Bands page.
-
(08/10) A review of the new Malevolent
Creation album is now in the Bands section.
-
(08/10) Metallica
was supposed to be putting the finishing touches on a new album called
"Reload", or "Unload" or something like that. They claimed the album was
a trip back to their heavier days, but now it looks like the album will
just be more songs in the same vein as "Load". Life is so sad.
-
(08/10) Click here
to see the cover to Meshuggah's
new EP "The True Human Design"
-
(08/10) New Slayer
album in the works. I've heard this album will have less speed and more
chunk. Come on guys, can't we have both? :)
July 1997
-
(07/20) Here's a track listing to the new Malevolent
Creation album: Nocturnal Overlord, Seizure,
Compulsive, VII, In Cold Blood, Leach, Prophecy, Violated, Condemned, Narcotic
Genocide, Millions, Preyed Upon, Vision Of Malice. And here's an online
version of Prophecy,
in real audio format.
-

Live album: A New Level, Walk, Becoming, Five Minutes Alone, Sand Blasted
Skin, Suicide Note Part 2, War Nerve, Strength Beyond Strength, Domination
/ Hollow, This Love, I'm Broken, Cowboys from Hell, Cemetery Gates, Fucking
Hostile, Where You Come From, I Can't Hide. The last two songs are new
tracks.
-
(07/19) If you have real audio then take a listen
to the internet's only death / black metal radio station, Praise
Of Death. This and more can be found at Deathmetal.com.
-
(07/12) Slayer
has collaborated with a techno band called Atari Teenage Riot to produce
a song on the new Spawn Movie Soundtrack, which should be available July
29th.
-
(07/11) Fear Factory
is releasing two 12" singles which have various remixes of the remixes
found on Remanufacture.
-
(07/11) A new bigger and better Meshuggah
website is in the works. I'll give the address when it's up. I was originally
working on my own Meshuggah website, but if this new one turns out to be
any good, I think I'll put my project on the permanent back burner. Also,
looks like the EP has been postponed till August, because of some unexpected
problems with the CD-ROM stuff that's included on the CD.
-
(07/02) Malevolent
Creation and Oppressor
will be going on tour together this summer, to find out when they'll be
around your part of the country, check out their respective websites (on
the Bands page).
-
(07/02) Here's a link to a Live TestamentConcert
in Real Audio format. The quality isn't all that good, but it is in realtime
over a 28.8 modem.
June 1997
-
(06/26) I've added a link on the releases page to
a big list of metal releases. The dates are generally inaccurate (of course
it can't be helped), but it should give you a better idea of what's coming
out for all your favorite bands.
-
(06/26) Just got the new Testament
Album. Check out the review on the bands page.
-
(06/26) Just found the official Malevolent
Creation webpage, which is accessible
through the bands page. It seems like the band has been through some serious
changes. First, a friend of the band, Crazy Larry (he played drums live
for them several times) died in a fire. Now it looks like the guitar player
is gone, and Rob Barrett who recently left Cannibal Corpse has joined up.
I guess we'll see the new line up when they tour this summer. For tour
info, album info, an interview with Phil, etc, go to their official webpage
here.
-
(06/26) The new Internal
Bleeding Album has been pushed back to
July 15th.
-
(06/26) The new Malevolent
Creation Album has been pushed back to
July 8th.
-
(06/23) Someone mentioned this on the newsgroups,
and it sort of confirms something I've heard from another source, so anyways
it seems that Suffocation
will have a new EP out sometime in August. Hopefully this is just a lead
in to that full length album I was told should be out in the fall.
-
(06/18) If you want to hear the new Testament
album using Real Audio, go to the Hardradio
site.
-
(06/18) Check out my review of the new Megadeth
album on the Bands page.
-
(06/11) The rumors seem to be true, Rob Barrett,
guitarist for Cannibal Corpse,
has left the band. No word on the replacement yet.
-
(06/10) A review of Napalm
Death's new album is available in the
Bands section.
-
(06/09) The Malevolent
Creation CD has been pushed back to June
24th, I'm not quite sure why, but I've heard several rumors, none of which
I can confirm yet, but I'll let you know if I find out anything a little
more concrete.
-
(06/07) Here's a link to a clip from the new Napalm
Death album in real audio format. The
song is called Breed
to Breathe.
-
(06/07) Sepultura
is working on some new stuff, and they hope to have a new album out sometime
in 1998.

(06/07) Gorefest
has apparently left Nuclear Blast Records, and has switched to SPV in Germany.
I'm not sure how this change will effect the band, actually, I'm not sure
I care anymore. After hearing part of their last album and their track
from the "Death Is Just The Beginning IV" compilation, it sounds like they've
fallen into the old Carcass / Entombed trap. I wish them luck on their
new career path, but death metal will sorely miss them.
-
(06/05) Benediction's
new album should be out in September.
-
(06/05) It's June 16th 1997 for Megadeth's
"Cryptic Writings" album.
-
(06/05) I've added a new releases
section to the webzine, so it'll be a bit easier to keep track of when
albums are coming out. Of course, most of the dates are pretty inaccurate
since record companies are always shifting the release dates around, but
I'll try and keep it updated regularly.
-
(06/05) More Testament
news. You can view the album
cover and track listing here, as well as other info about "Demonic".
And here's a sample of one of the songs on the album, 'Murky
Waters'.
-
(06/05) The Pantera
Album is called "Official Live".
May 1997
-
(05/31) After doing a little investigating, the Pantera
live album seems to have 10 tracks of live music, and two new studio songs.
It, along with a live video, should be released July 29th.
-
(05/29) Apparent an official live Pantera
album should be coming out by the end of June.
-
(05/26) Check out the review for Fear
Factory's Remanufacture in the Bands section.
-
(05/22) The new Testament
album should be released soon (possibly June 24th), it's called Demonic,
and it's supposed to be heavy as hell. Apparently, although Gene Hoglan
plays on the album, he's left the band to work with Strapping Young Lad,
and Jon Dette is back. The producer was Daniel Bergstrand, the same guy
that produced Meshuggah :)
-
(05/19) "Death Is
Just The Beginning IV" has been released.
It has some cool stuff on it, including tracks from Benediction, Slapdash,
Gorefest, Hypocrisy, Monstrosity and Sinister. Two CD's with 29 songs.
Some of the stuff is lame, but there's enough variety to make it worthwhile.
It also has a live Meshuggah track, 'Sickening'.
-
(05/19) A new review for Malevolent
Creation's "Joe Black" and Sinister's
"Bastard Saints" is available in the Bands section.
-
(05/17) Check out my review of Obituary's
new album on the bands page.
-
(05/15) Once again, more news on the Meshuggah
site. The new EP will apparently be called "The True Human Design", and
will include a new song and 3 versions of "Future Breed Machine". Also,
Meshuggah now has an e-mail address. I have no proof this works, but give
it a try at meshuggener@hotmail.com
-
(05/09) The Earache
Site now shows June 3rd as the date for the release of Napalm
Death's new album. There's also a track
listing on their site.
-
(05/09) The Dying
Fetus website mentions something about
a new album being recorded in May for Pulverizer Records. No firm information
yet though.
-
(05/09) Check the Pavement
Music site for the cover art to the new Internal
Bleeding album.
-
(05/09) More news on the Meshuggah
page, they apparently have a live track on the most recent Nuclear Blast
"Death Is Just The Beginning IV" compilation. Also the Nuclear Blast site
is giving a July release date for Fred's solo album (even if it's already
available in Sweden).
-
(05/03) New Megadeth
album on the way called "Cryptic Writings". Supposedly it's much heavier
than their more recent albums, sorta more like "Rust In Peace". Maybe Megadeth
saw what happened to Metallica when they released a crappy commercial album,
so Megadeth decided to go back to their aggressive roots (we can always
hope).
-
(05/03) Apparently the new Meshuggah
EP this spring will have a remixed version of Future Breed Machine, and
an unconfirmed source has said the rest of the album might be some live
tracks.
-
(05/03) Check out the new band Infestdead,
basically standard death metal in the style of Deicide. The review is on
my bands page.
-
(05/01) The cover art, as well as some real audio
samples of the Fear Factory
album "Remanufacture" have been put up at the Roadrunner
site.
-
(05/01) See the cover of the new Malevolent
Creation CD on their website.
April 1997
-
(04/22) New album out by those insane guys from GWAR,
entitled "Carnival of Chaos".
-
(04/22) New Benediction
album on the way in May, entitled "Grind Bastard".
-
(04/22) The long time rumors that Bolt
Thrower has left Earache seem to be true,
since they've just signed with Metal Blade, and hope to have a new album
out by this fall.
-
(04/21) I've changed the format of my bands page
pretty heavily. Check it out!
-
(04/21) Also rumors that Malevolent
Creation is finishing up their 5th full
length album entitled "In Cold Blood". Expected Release date on that is
May 27th 1997.
-
(04/21) Rumors of a new Internal
Bleeding album on the way, entitled "The
Extinction of Benevolence". Release date should be June 24th 1997.
-
(04/20) The polish band Vader
has recently released an album of covers in Europe called "Future Of The
Past". No idea when it will show up in North America. They have also released
"Reborn In Chaos", which is their first two out-of-print demos remastered
and put on one CD. They should be touring Europe in the coming months,
and then will record a new album over the summer, which they hope to have
ready by fall.
-
(04/18) Foufounes
Electriques (our local death metal bar)
has moved it's website to it's own domain name.
-
(04/18) Some new news on the Meshuggah
webpage. Fred's solo album is apparently available in Sweden, and Espen
has found Peter
Nordin's webpage (Meshuggah's former bass
player). Peter's page has a short explanation of the events that led to
him leaving the band.
-
(04/14) New Obituary
Album will be titled "Back From The Dead".
-
(04/11) New album also from Napalm
Death called "Inside The Torn Apart".
Should be available on May 3rd.
-
(04/11) New album from Oppressor
called "Agony" just came out. Check out my review on the bands page.
-
(04/11) The Fear
Factory album "Remanufacture" (remixes
of Demanufacture) has been pushed back till May 20th. This and other news
can be found at a cool new Fear Factory site I found. You can get there
by going to my bands page, or go their directly from here.
Oh, and the band has already been working on material for their next record,
and the stuff is supposed to make Demanufacture look like a wimpy album.
Probably a 1998 release date on that one.
-
(04/11) Obituary
should have a new album in stores by the end of April.
-
(04/08) Although I'm not sure if it's a new album
(it's certainly new in Montreal), check out 250.25 "Actual Reality" by
a swedish band called Slapdash.
Read my review on the bands page, but basically if you like bands like
Pantera, Meshuggah or COC, you'll probably like them.
-
(04/03) Grip Inc's
new album "Nemesis" is out. Haven't heard much of it yet, so I really can't
tell you if it's any good.
March 1997
-
(03/28) Espen's Meshuggah
page has been updated, check it out here
for some pictures of the band in Umeå. They're apparently working
on music for their new album, and we might get another EP this spring.
Also Fredrik, the band's lead guitar player, has finished recording his
solo album, "Sol Niger Within".
-
(03/28) I've been hearing a lot of rumors lately
about Testament,
sounds like their new album might be finished and coming out soon. The
lineup has changed a lot since the last record, but it sounds like they
have Gene Hoglan (formerly of Death) on drums, and the bass player has
changed, and I'm not sure exactly who is playing lead guitar (It might
still be James Murphy). But it should be a great album. I'll keep you informed
on anything I find out.
-
(03/27) Just came back from the Broken
Hope - Vader
- Monstrosity
concert. Check out my review of the concert on the concerts page.
-
(03/22) Just heard Entombed's
new album, and it completely sucks. Don't waste your money.
-
(03/11) The name for the new Broken
Hope album is "Loathing". Check out the
Metal
Blade site for a picture of the CD cover.
-
(03/04) A new album for Broken
Hope will be showing up in your local
CD shop soon. It's pretty damn good, lots of fast and mid-tempo stuff.
Their sound has a little more high end to it (although the vocalist is
still really low). Some new twists to the band's usual stuff.
-
(03/04) Just heard the new album from Strapping
Young Lad (called City), sort of death-hardcore-industrial.
The mix is a bit muddy, but it's powerful, and well worth a listen.
-
(03/04) Broken Hope,
Vader and
Monstrosity will be performing at Foufounes
Electrique (in Montreal) on March 26th. It's a cheap show (only $10), so
come one come all.
