1) PERIPHERY:
Periphery
The perfect blend of Meshuggah-esque rhythms, technical guitarwork /
drumming and complex but catchy songs. Despite the somewhat
less than stellar vocals, I have to admit this album got listened to a
lot this year.

|
2) FEAR
FACTORY: Mechanize
This may not be the Fear Factory I remember from a lineup perspective,
but it's the Fear Factory I remember in terms of stellar music. Super
brutal tech metal.

|
3) AEON:
Path Of Fire
This band never fails at writing an excellent, excellent album filled
with brutal but catchy riffs. Just spectacular.
|
|
4) DEFTONES:
Diamond Eyes
Moody, dark and aggressive for the genre, lots of lots of standout
songs that always seem fresh.
|
|
5) IMMOLATION:
Majesty And Decay
A really strong album from the band, possibly their best album since
"Closer To A World Below". The most inventive band in death metal.
|
|
6) SYNTHETIC
BREED: Perpetual Motion Machine
More excellent tech metal, more song oriented than Meshuggah's last 3
or 4 albums, thick powerful guitar sound and big thick choral vocals. |
|
7) TESSERACT:
Concealing Fate
Really well done material, once I got past the fact that the album
doesn't have a lot of variety to it, I found myself listening to it
again
and again. Fantastic mood music. |
|
8) THY
ART IS MURDER: The Adversary
Some of the best death-core available today. |
|
9) THE
RED SHORE: The Avarice Of Man
The next best death-core available today. |
|
10) MNEMIC:
Sons Of The System
While the album is a little too melodic, and not aggressive enough, the
melodies are certainly powerful. I just hope they add more anger on
their next one.
