1) ORIGIN:
Antithesis
The old lineup is back, and delivered one hell of a punishing blow. No
compromises, no clean vocals, just blasting metal at it's best.
|
|
2) BRAIN
DRILL: Apocalyptic Feasting
Taking Origin and pushing it one brutal step forward. Everytime I
listen to this CD I get the feeling I'm listening to the next logical
step in extreme metal.

|
3) THE
FACELESS: Planetary Duality
Progressive death metal at its finest, ridiculously hard to play riffs
mixed with enough catchiness to avoid a complete mess.
|
|
4) BLOODBATH:
The Fathomless Mastery
Great old-school death metal, this album was inspired by the classics,
and the result is some brand new classics.
|
|
5) BENEDICTION:
Killing Music
Quite a surprise, these guys can still rock after all these years. Just
great, great riffs and lots of groove.
|
|
6) MESHUGGAH:
obZen
A nod to the more song-oriented music of their past, not quite as great
as their legendary first albums, but a good step in the right direction.
|
|
7) RESURRECTION:
Mistaken For Dead
Again, a nice blast from the past, some really brutal music here from a
band that never got the accolades they deserved.
|
|
8) TESTAMENT:
The Formation Of Damnation
After an 8 year wait, it was inevitable that this album might not quite
live up to the hype. But it is an excellent album, with some excellent
tunes. Hope to not have to wait another 8 years.
|
|
9) NINE
INCH NAILS: The Slip
Trent has finally impressed me again after 2 so-so albums. And he gets
all my respect for trying something new as far as music distribution
goes. A genius on so many levels.
|
|
10) WHITECHAPEL:
This Is Exile
While nothing new, this death-core album is powerful and vicious, and
it's a good album to round out our top 10.
